MINISTRIES-INREACH
Community Fellowship
The Fellowship Committee plans
various barbeques and other get-togethers during the year including the
annual Parish Dinner. New this year are Dinner Circles. Six to eight
members meet for a fun-filled evening once a month to share food and
fellowship. The place rotates among the families. We want parishioners
to have as many “fun times” together as we can, especially during this
time of transition.
Community
Friendship
This group of
parishioners includes church members who administer to the needs of the
congregation and welcomes new members and visitors. They check the
guest books, send special cards to those who are new, welcome visitors and
acknowledge members for their dedication
to the needs of the church.
Episcopal Church Women
Every woman who attends St. Luke’s
is a member of ECW. They meet on the second Wednesday of each month at
noon at the Onderdonk Hall. The ECW plans and provides church dinners,
coffee-hour hosts and hostesses, and celebratory receptions.
The Surprise You
Sale (a Christmas bazaar) is their main fund raiser and is held the first
Saturday in December. Homemade wreaths, crafts and baked goods, antiques,
and homemade cinnamon rolls are offered to the community. Monies from the
sale are used to support outreach programs locally and overseas.
The ECW hosts a Pink
Tea in May for members of the Church and their friends. Sandwiches,
scones, jams and, of course, tea are served while the group is entertained
by a variety of musical talents. This is much the same as it was in 1884
when Mrs. Copps hosted the tea to raise money to build St. Luke’s.
Stone Soup
The Stone Soup Committee provides
meals for those who are ill or in crisis.
Baptism and Funeral Receptions
This ministry is made up of St.
Luke’s ECW members. For baptisms, they provide cake and beverages to
welcome “new candidates” into Christ’s Body, the Church. For funerals,
they provide food and beverages for families during their time of
transition.
Holy Folders
These ECW women
help get the monthly newsletter ready for mailing. This requires
collating, folding, sealing, attaching address labels and sorting as
required by the Post Office.
Christian Education-Youth
We began a “Children’s Chapel” this
fall during the 9 a.m. service. A lounge with toys is also available in
the Onderdonk for parents with small children to use. The Jr. High/High
School group meets twice a month on Wednesdays. The youth also conduct
the 9 a.m. service about three times a year.
Christian Education-Adult
Adult education classes meet on Wednesday mornings as well as three
sections of “A Purpose Driven Life” study, led by three parishioners,
which met from January to April. Last fall, Bishop Strickland led a
special study group on “The Faith We Share”. Plans are underway for
another one.
